"The sport in Scouting is to find the good in every boy and develop it" L.B. Powell
Welcome to Troop 700!
Every summer our Patrol Leaders Council get together and plan their outdoor activities for the entire year. Check out our calendar - the boys have some fun and exciting campouts planned. Shooting sports, canoeing, backpacking, cave exploring, wilderness survival, orienteering, pioneering, bouldering, and fly fishing just are a few typical activities we enjoy. Our Scouts do their best to plan an outdoor campout every month. We go in rain, shine or snow and have a great time every time. Our current calendar provides 31 outdoor camping nights throughout the 2010-2011. We also attend the Lakeview District Camporee every year and the Scouts love seeing their friends in other troops during these competitions.
The Monday night meetings are an opportunity to learn new skills, plan meals for the campouts, and play fun competitive games between patrols. The Senior Patrol Leader and his assistants plan and run the meetings, because Troop 700 is definitely a boy-led troop, and that is exactly how the Boy Scouts founder, Lord Robert Baden-Powell, wanted it. Our troop holds elections for leadership positions every 6 months, so if a boy wants an opportunity to learn leadership he is in the right troop.
In addition to the monthly campouts and troop meetings we attend a different summer camp every year. This is a great opportunity for the Scouts to earn rank advancements, merit badges, and participate in exciting activities. Small boat sailing, rifle and shotgun shooting, swimming, archery, climbing, life saving, motor-boating, metalworking, and fishing are just a handful of the many activities they can do at the summer camps we attend.
If you are looking around for a troop to join please stop by one of our meetings or drop us a line. We will be glad to answer any questions you have...just be prepared to make some new friends and embark on a wonderful adventure!
